How can people afford to sell DVDs on Amazon for 01

I am trying to sell DVDs on Amazon and some people have Used DVDs selling for .01 plus 2.98 shipping costs. Amazon takes 1.79 from the total of 2.99 so that only leaves like a 1.25 for shipping it and profits. It costs more than 1.25 to Ship a DVD, so why do these people pay money out of their own pocket to sell a DVD for .01? I dont understand it. Answer1:My guess is they are trying to increase their "score" on eBay, or they are selling high volume and their cost is much lower than yours (for shipping, product). Your listing fee of $1.79 seem high to me. Answer2:Those are loss leaders, they lose money on the initial sale but make up on future offers to the customer.
