How can I fire a new, good, but terrible employee
Answer1:You didnt mention where your business is located. State laws vary as to employer/employee rights. If you are located in a "right-to-work" state, you can fire her at will for no cause, just as she can leave with no notice required. My best advice would be to contact a local attorney, invest in 20 minutes of his/her time for a legal opinion, and follow it. If you do end up firing, wait till the end of the day so she has a ride, and have her final check ready so she doesnt need to return. Good luck.
Answer2:just wait until the end of her shift and let her know that her background check came back and based on the negative information in it that you will have to let her go!
Answer3:She needs to be confronted about the stealing and behavior! You could just pull her aside or call her and just tell her that this is concerning to you and that it wont be tolerated, hence she is fired. Or... You could just tell her that the background checks were just completed and that she needs not to return.
Answer4:Why would you want to keep a member of staff that steals from you?Lesson 1 - take references - but you know that now?Is she on a period of training, trial period etc? If so she has clearly failed.Have you gone through a period of induction? If not - you should do so and use this time to clearly set out the rules and your expectations of her.The ride is not your problem. Stealing is - do you want to send the message to the rest of your staff that this is OK?So get rid of her by what ever legal means. If you have to give her warnings etc (UK and some of Europe) then do this every time she behaves weirdly.Mark the money and search everyone that worked there on the day it went missing - the call the police!Get her out of your business or see your profit go into her pocket!
Answer5:This is a very hard part of being a business owner. I have been one for 23 years and dealt with all kinds of employees.A few thoughts,1 - First of all this is your business and your livelihood, I used to be so nice and soft, but the bottom line is that you need honest hard working employees. Firing or not firing should be based on facts not on any discomfort you have being not nice.2 - You could use this as an opportunity to help her and gain a loyal employee. Set things up so you can prove she stole (label the money, get a web cam, whatever). Once you have the proof, sit her down to an honest discussion. Tell her she has good qualities and you are willing to give her another chance (and you won;t call the police) but she has to prove to you she will change her ways. Discuss drugs, theft everything, ask her not to stay if she is not really willing to change her ways. You may end up with an appreciative loyal employee.3 - Do nothing, sorry, not a viable option. Being nice, means to being fair to others but also to yourself. Answer6:It sounds like you have the right to fire her, but in the future I would have a security cam focused on the register. The biggest thefts in the workplace are perpetrated by employees. The camera would also be a good deterrent to scam artist customers making false claims about what bills were given, etc.
Answer7:Youre going to let a thief work for you just because she doesnt have a ride? Are you kidding? I had a small business. Just tell her the truth ...Youve checked her background and she has no good references ... shes already been late and money has been missing . If you care about your business let her go . Tell her youre sorry but her references didnt check out and company policy is , you have to let her go .
Answer8:stealing should be reason enough to fire someone!
