I am looking to start a small business but I would like to first start off selling things at the flea market by purchasing wholesale and reselling them. I know I need a ellers permit to do this in California, but I wanted to find out if I am required to obtain a business license first or can I just get the sellers permit. Thanks!.--Answer1:~~You have to a business name and address prior to applying for a sellers permit. I would get your name and then pull the business license. The license is not as important to them as the name, as then you would have to request a name change on your permit if you dont get the one you want to use.If you use your own name and home address, then you are fine. If you are going to use a made up name, then file for a DBA through your county hall of records. Then you can get your sellers permit.You need to get the license asap though. If you start transacting business, I think they give you 30 days and then you get fines for not obtaining it sooner.
