I am curious to hear from others what this is like. Do you do it part-time or full time? How is it? I keep seeing ads in my newspaper advertising the opportunity to become an independent rep. I wanted to learn more about that from those with experience..--Answer1:I havent sold Avon, but I have sold Arbonne which is in the same business. You pay a fee to get signed up and you get products at a discount. You then have to bug your friends and family to hold parties for you where you dont sell enough to make up what youve spent on inventory because you are only getting a 4-5% commission from your discounted products or 35% commission on a retail sale. Its not worth it unless you have connections in very high places, especially in this economy. They say you dont have to spend a lot of money on inventory, but in order to sell products, you must have them for demonstrations ie: you have to buy them because people want to try before they buy, just like at the department store..--Answer2:I sell Avon on a part-time basis. The way that you make money is that whatever you buy is sold to you at cost. So when you are charging the customer the price in the book, you make money on the difference. It depends how much effort you put into selling the products. I do not keep any products on hand, because most people that buy Avon are familiar with their products. It just depends how seriously you want to sell and make money.
