In the summer I babysitted two girls, with the ages of 5 and 3. I would watch them from 8am-4pm and get 20 dollars each day which would come to 100 dollars a week. Now I decided to do some calculations and each day I watch them 8 hours and only get 1.25 per kid or 2.50 for both. Now call me crazy but it seems like im getting ripped big time. Im not the kind of person to speak up about what im getting paid and to make things worse we dont have a rate going on and she just pays me what she happens to have in her purse sometimes.btw Im 15 and have been babysitting for a couple years if that makes a difference.Any advice on this?.--Answer1:thats VERY underpaid. thats what my neighbor did.it should be at least 6 each thats howmuch in ny is min..--Answer2:First of all, when it comes to babysitting, its not a set amount. Its a matter of 1) How much you will work for and 2) How much the parent can afford. Every parent that requires a sitter for something cannot afford to pay top dollar. That is part of the reason they hire teenagers. This is a good way for you to make some extra money that you couldnt make working somewhere else because you are too young. It is a good way for you to learn a good work ethic. And she hires you in part because she cant afford to pay someone $12 per hour ($6 per hour/per kid, as the first person suggested as the minimum). If she could, she would probably hire a "professional," or put them in daycare. All of that being said, I do think you are being underpaid. And I totally relate to not being able to speak up about it. If you get up the guts, I certainly wouldnt go in demanding $6 per hour, per kid. It will not go well. Just tell her if she is happy with the job you do, you would appreciate a raise. If she cant or wont, see what you could make working somewhere else and then decide what you want to do. Keep in mind that working at a real job you will also have to pay taxes, and the environment will likely not be as easy/casual as the one you are in right now. Good luck!.--Answer3:It sounds a little low to me, but Ive been told that I pay a little too much. I pay $20 for both kids for 4 hours or less, $30 for both kids for 6 hours or less or $40 for all day. The girl has been watching my girls for 3 years now, and her and her family are very good with them. I also dont have her watch them 5 days a week. If I did, I would probably work out a weekly payment amount instead of a daily amount..--Answer4:There is a difference between a parent paying $20 a day to send their kids to a preschool with ten other kids - that means ten other "$20 a days" for the caretaker! For your situation, you should be making MUCH more. You provide a much more personal childcare experience for the family than they would at most daycares. If they want a babysitter to do what you do, they need to pay you an hourly wage. For two children, I would say 8 to ten dollars per hour would be good, depending on what all you do.Good luck!!.--Answer5:It really depends on the going rate in your area. It some cities babysitters and day care providers are paid much more than those in other cities. It also depends on what else you do, like fix meals, wash dishes, do other household chores, etc.
